Gift certificates are a popular way to give gifts.  They are the same as cash and are easy to include in greeting cards. You can purchase them online or in retail stores. Normally store discounts and coupons usually are ineligible for purchases of gift cards, so for those of us who are always looking to save money, how can you get them cheaper?

On eBay, there is a specific category for gift certificates.  Here you can find $200 iTunes GCs for $160, or a $200 Restaurant.com gift certificate for $29.99.  Most cards sell for very close to face value, some sell for a 10% – 15% discount, and others sell for almost 40% off.  The popularity and face value is normally a good indicator of how high the ending value would be.
